On 31 August 2026, the Polish Accreditation Committee will host an international workshop devoted to the practical application of the Joint European Degree Label – a new European quality label for joint programmes leading to a joint degree.
The Joint European Degree Label – Technical Support Workshop: Interpreting and Applying the Operational Guide, organised in Warsaw, is being delivered on behalf of the European Commission. The Polish Accreditation Committee is the host and organiser of the event, the SGH Warsaw School of Economics is the venue host, while the training will be delivered by PPMI, part of Verian Group, and ICF.
The workshop will bring together representatives of PKA, European quality assurance agencies, higher education institutions and European Universities alliances. Representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Foundation for the Development of the Education System have also been invited to participate. Participants will work together on interpreting the Joint European Degree Label criteria, identifying appropriate evidence, formulating consistent assessments of compliance and exploring possible ways of incorporating the new solution into quality assurance procedures. The programme also includes practical work on a case study.
PKA brings to this discussion concrete experience that it has been consistently developing over several years. The Committee coordinated the Erasmus+ project ImpEA – Facilitating Implementation of the European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes, which aimed to support higher education institutions and quality assurance agencies in implementing the European Approach. The procedures, recommendations and tools developed within the project are now used by PKA in the evaluation of joint programmes and are available to European quality assurance agencies and higher education institutions delivering such programmes.
In accordance with the European Approach for Quality Assurance of Joint Programmes, the Committee has already carried out evaluations of three international joint programmes:
- BASUS – Joint Bachelor in Sustainability,
- PATHS – Joint Master on Forced Migration: Europe in a Global Context,
- CLIDE – Erasmus Mundus Joint Master interCultural Leadership in the Digital Era.
The results of all three evaluation procedures are available in the European DEQAR database.
The workshop takes place at a time when the Joint European Degree Label is moving from concept to practical application. The first labels have already been awarded by AQU Catalunya (Spain) to the Joint Master in Marine Biotechnology, delivered by the EU-CONEXUS alliance, and the Joint Master in Global Challenges for Sustainability, delivered by CHARM-EU.
The workshop in Warsaw is a natural continuation of PKA’s activities to date: from coordinating the ImpEA project and co-developing tools supporting the implementation of the European Approach, through conducting evaluations of international joint programmes, to preparing for the practical application of the Joint European Degree Label. It is another step in developing PKA’s capacity for the credible evaluation of joint programmes, active participation in shaping European solutions and supporting Polish higher education institutions in the development of high-quality international education.
